Just start on the NAS and make sure the network share is mapped, then play the song again, it will find it and the '!' will go away. Later on when you forget to turn the NAS on and and try to play a song, it will give you the broken link '!'. This will create the iTunes 'library database' on your PC of the music on the NAS but not move the music there. 3.) Start iTunes on PC or mac 4.) In the 'Edit/Preference/Advanced tab, uncheck 'Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized' & 'Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to Library'' (Otherwise itune will try to copy everything back to it's home directory on your PC.) 5.) Click 'Files/Add Folder to Library' and select the music folder on the NAS. If you want try it out: 1.) Create network share 'music' on NAS 2.) Map it to a drive on your PC or will appear as share drive on your mac. You can then access it from PCs and Mac on the network.

Copy your 'itunes music' folder on to the server. Stayed away from the standard 'Qmultimedia' because I'm not using UPnP and leaves it free to play with later, but you may prefer to use it. I set up a dedicated folder share 'music' on the NAS, then placed my music library into it. Our house is an itunes environment for Audio.

My wife likes her iTunes and iPod, so human (wife) acceptance of the user interface was the priority. Wolf, I didn't implement DLNA/ UPnP for a user reasons.
